History of Tetbury Probus Club
Probus was born when it was realized that members of Rotary clubs wanted to continue meeting after they had retired. Unlike Rotary there is no central organizing body for Probus clubs, nor is membership of Rotary a prerequisite for joining Probus. Each of the many clubs worldwide is autonomous and, while most are men’s clubs, there are ladies’ clubs, and a few are mixed.
Tetbury Probus was formed in 1976 so we will be celebrating our 50th anniversary in a few years’ time. We meet two or three times a month. We aim to cover a wide range of subjects in our talks, but we avoid party politics and religion! As our members include retired engineers of all persuasions, military personnel, teachers, solicitors, accountants, and civil servants, we have a very wide range of interests to fulfil and expertise to draw upon. Once or twice a year when we have a particularly suitable presentation, we invite lady guests to join us as they do for our annual lunch. We usually enjoy two or three trips each year to places of interest.
